Biography

Jim received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from James Madison University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Upon graduating, he served as Pro Se Law Clerk to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division. He then joined Furniss, Davis, Rashkind and Saunders, P.C. where he has concentrated on defending civil lawsuits for a number of insurance companies and governmental entities for over 20 years. He has been recognized for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and Virginia Super Lawyers. He is co-author of “John Doe Pleadings: Not Just for the Uninsured Motorist Anymore?” published in The Journal of Civil Litigation in 2011 and 'Qualified Immunity Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: A Review of the Defense's Origins, Current State, and Future' published in The Journal of Civil Litigation in 2020

Jim is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, the Defense Research Institute, the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, the Virginia Beach Bar Association and the James Kent American Inn of Court. Jim is currently serving as the President of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. He also is currently appointed as a member to the Virginia State Bar’s Lawyer Insurance Committee.
