Biography
Alan is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, and was a charter member of the I’Anson-Hoffman American Inn of Court and of the Boyd-Graves Conference of the Virginia State Bar, having served as Chair from 1997 to 1999. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Virginia Super Lawyers, Virginia’s Best Lawyers, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law. He has also been selected by his peers as a member of Virginia’s Legal Elite.

Alan is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, and the Virginia Beach Bar Association.

He has served as Chair of the Board of Trustees at Randolph-Macon College and was an adjunct professor of insurance law at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William and Mary. He is co-author of the Virginia Insurance Case Finder, Third Edition, published by Lexis-Nexis Publishing Co. Alan is also available to serve as a neutral third party to preside over mediations in all types of civil cases and insurance disputes.
